Argentium Silver - Why We Build on This Material

Not all silver is the same. In-house we cast with Argentium® 940 - a modern silver alloy that solves several typical weaknesses of classic sterling silver. Here is what makes the material special from a workshop point of view.
More fine silver than sterling
Argentium 940 contains 94% fine silver, classic sterling silver 92.5%. The higher silver content gives a brighter, whiter tone - closer to pure silver, without the slight yellow cast you sometimes see in sterling.
Tarnish-resistant thanks to germanium
The decisive difference is the germanium content. It forms a fine, self-healing protective layer on the surface. The result: Argentium tarnishes far more slowly than sterling silver and stays bright noticeably longer. For wearers that means less polishing, for collections a lasting clean look.
No firescale, nickel-free
When heated, ordinary sterling silver often develops firescale - dark copper-oxide marks below the surface that have to be worked away laboriously. Argentium is barely prone to this, which makes casting, soldering and finishing cleaner. And because the alloy is nickel-free, it also suits sensitive skin.
Why we cast it in-house
We have consistently tuned our casting process in Penzberg for Argentium, and through Argentium Shop Europe we also supply semi-finished stock and casting grain. This specialisation means for your project: a material we know in detail, process cleanly and deliver in consistent quality - from a single piece to a small series.
